What does a credit card validation tool actually check?
Four things: the Luhn mod-10 checksum, the BIN prefix that identifies network and card type, the expiry date, and the length of the security code. It confirms a number looks structurally valid; it never confirms a card is live or funded.
Can I paste real customer card numbers into it?
No. Use the bundled test numbers or your gateway's sandbox environment instead. Validating live cardholder data outside a PCI-compliant system creates risk you do not need, and this tool is not built to hold it.
Do I still need a payment gateway?
Yes. Validation only filters typos and malformed input before authorization; actually charging a card still requires a PCI-compliant gateway or processor.
